Project overview
At Hoa Phat Dung Quat 1 Iron and Steel Complex, GAC carried out the design of material screen grids for Mechanical & Electrical Plant No. 5. The scope comprised multiple sizes and configurations for different line and hopper locations throughout the system.
The screen grids were designed using 10 mm-thick Hardox 500 steel. Based on the requirements of each installation location, GAC developed detailed specifications covering overall dimensions, screen frame structure, bar spacing, height, welded joint configuration and surface finishing requirements as the basis for fabrication.
The design package comprised 6 configurations with a total of 23 screen grid assemblies, ranging from line-mounted screens measuring 1,575 × 895 mm to hopper screens measuring 2,370 × 2,370 mm. Design dossier BVPA.0058D completed the technical review process and was approved by Mechanical & Electrical Plant No. 5 on 11/08/2026.
Customer challenges
Accommodating multiple screen grid configurations
The scope includes 6 configurations and 23 screen grids installed at different conveyor and hopper locations. Differences in size, bar spacing and installation position require each configuration to be designed for its specific location
Standardizing materials across the entire scope
With multiple screen configurations, the fabrication material needs to be standardized throughout the project. 10 mm-thick Hardox 500 steel is specified for all 6 screen configurations
Ensuring structural integrity and connections between screen bars
Intersections between screen bars need to be clearly detailed for fabrication. The drawings specify strong, continuous welds using welding consumables equivalent to E71
Controlling post-fabrication requirements
After fabrication, all components must be cleaned of burrs and sharp edges. External surfaces are treated for corrosion protection and finished with the specified coating system
MATERIAL SCREEN GRID SYSTEM
Screen grid configurations designed for individual line and hopper locations
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
COMPLETE 6 SCREEN GRID CONFIGURATIONS
Develop detailed designs for 6 screen grid configurations according to the dimensions and installation locations required for the lines, hoppers of Mechanical & Electrical Plant No. 5
STANDARDIZE HARDOX 500 MATERIAL
Use 10 mm-thick Hardox 500 steel as the fabrication material for all screen grid configurations included in the design dossier
COMPLETE THE TECHNICAL BASIS FOR FABRICATION
Fully define dimensions, screen bar structures, connection details and welding requirements, providing a clear technical basis for fabricating each configuration in accordance with the drawings
Construction process
Define the screen grid scope
GAC classifies the 6 configurations according to their respective conveyor and hopper locations at Mechanical & Electrical Plant No. 5
Design each configuration to its specific dimensions
Each configuration is developed in a separate drawing showing overall dimensions, height, bar spacing, sections and 3D views
Specify Hardox 500 material
10 mm-thick Hardox 500 steel is specified as the fabrication material for all 6 screen configurations in the design dossier
Design the connection structure
Connections between screen bars are detailed in the drawings. Welds are specified to be strong, continuous and equivalent to E71
Finalize fabrication requirements
Fabricated components must be cleaned of burrs and sharp edges. External surfaces are treated for corrosion protection and finished with the specified coating system
Submit the technical dossier for approval
The dossier is reviewed by the relevant technical departments and approved by the Deputy Director of Mechanical & Electrical Plant No. 5 on 11/08/2026, providing the basis for implementation
Project results
COMPLETED 6 CONFIGURATIONS, TOTALING 23 SCREEN GRID ASSEMBLIES
The design dossier was completed for 6 configurations comprising a total of 23 screen grid assemblies, meeting the different dimensional and installation requirements at Mechanical & Electrical Plant No. 5
STANDARDIZED MATERIAL CONFIGURATION AND FABRICATION REQUIREMENTS
All screen grids in the dossier were designed using 10 mm-thick Hardox 500 steel, while the screen bar structure, welded connections and post-fabrication finishing requirements were also clearly defined
