FAQs
The return on investment should be evaluated based on the total cost of ownership rather than the initial material price alone. Key factors include reduced vehicle weight, increased payload capacity, lower fuel consumption, and overall operating cost savings.
Yes. Thanks to its high yield strength, PERFORM enables thinner structural sections while maintaining the required load-bearing capacity. This optimizes the design and contributes to lower fuel consumption.
PERFORM is commonly used for truck bodies, vehicle floors, subframes, and trailers. It reduces vehicle weight while increasing payload capacity.
Wear-resistant steel is designed to resist material loss caused by abrasion and impact, whereas high-strength structural steel, such as PERFORM, is engineered to carry higher loads while reducing structural weight.
These two steel categories are designed for completely different purposes.
- Wear-resistant steel is used in areas exposed to abrasion, impact, or erosive material flow to maximize equipment service life.
- High-strength structural steel is selected when high load-bearing capacity and reduced structural weight are required, such as for truck bodies, silos, conveyors, and load-bearing structures.
The selection should be based on the actual operating conditions of each component rather than the steel grade alone. In many applications, combining both types of steel within the same system provides the best technical performance and economic value.
Hardox® 450 offers significantly higher hardness, better dent resistance, and superior wear resistance than conventional structural steels. It extends equipment service life and allows thinner plates to be used while maintaining structural strength.
Bi-metal wear plate is recommended when a uniform alloy layer thickness and consistent hardness are required. Compared with on-site hardfacing, it provides more stable service life while reducing maintenance time.
For high-temperature applications, Hardox® HiTemp (300°C–500°C) or KALMETALL W145 (up to 750°C) is recommended. For acidic environments, Hardox® HiAce provides outstanding resistance to chemical corrosion, with performance comparable to stainless steel in many applications.
Hardox® 500 TUF combines high hardness (475–505 HBW) with exceptional toughness. Field measurements show that 16Mn steel wears approximately 4.47 times faster than Hardox® 500 TUF and is much more susceptible to cracking and permanent deformation.
KALMETALL W100 is manufactured using the Metal-Arc Process, which distributes ultra-hard chromium carbide particles uniformly throughout the entire wear layer. In contrast, conventional flux-cored hardfaced steel has carbide particles concentrated mainly near the surface due to dilution during welding, resulting in lower wear resistance and shorter service life.
